Homemade Pizza Sauce

I saw this recipe on Best Bites and have been wanting to try since we make a lot of homemade pizza at our house. It is so simple, and yet so fantastic. The kids all loved it. I really like the thickness and tangy flavor. It is a lot more zippy than using tomato sauce as a base. TRY IT!! The Garlic Bread seasoning is also great for, well, garlic bread!

Pizza Sauce

Recipe from OurBestBItes.com

Pizza Sauce

1 6-oz. can tomato paste
6 oz. water (just use the empty tomato paste can)
3 Tbsp. garlic bread seasoning*
1 Tbsp. sugar or honey (I usually use sugar because it's easier and hey, I think we've established here that if there's an easy road or a hard road, I usually take the easy road...)
3/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes (optional)

Empty tomato paste into a bowl and add water a few tablespoons at a time, stirring constantly until combined. Add remaining ingredients, stir to combine, and allow to stand until ready to use. Covers two average-sized pizza; freezes extremely well.

*Garlic Bread Seasoning:

combine the following ingredients

1/2 c. powdered Parmesan cheese

2 tsp. Kosher salt
2 Tbsp. garlic powder
2 tsp. oregano
2 tsp. basil
2 tsp. marjoram
2 tsp. parsley

Chicken Alfredo Pizza

Crust:
2 1/2 to 3 cups flour
2 1/2 tsp. yeast
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup warm water

Alfredo Sauce:
4 tbsp. butter
1/4 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 cups milk
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp. Italian seasonings
1 tbsp. garlic powder

Pizza Toppings:
1 pound cooked chicken, diced
1/2 cup sliced olives
1 small onion, diced
1 medium tomato, diced
grated mozzarella cheese

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. To make the dough for the crust, combine 1 1/4 cups of the flour, the yeast, and the salt in a large mixing bowl. Add water. Stir until combined. Add remaining flour. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Let rest for 10 minutes. Grease a baking sheet with non-stick spray. Use your fingers to press the dough and form it to the shape of the pan. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, just until the crust starts to brown.

While the crust bakes, make the Alfredo sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine butter and flour to make a roux. Add salt and pepper. Slowly stir in milk so sauce is smooth. Add Parmesan cheese, Italian seasonings, and garlic powder. Remove from heat.

Spread sauce over the crust. Add pizza toppings. Bake about 10 minutes longer, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Pizza Rolls

1 loaf Rhodes frozen bread dough thawed (I use homemade)
8 oz mozzarella cheese
1/3 lb pepperoni
½ stick margarine
1 egg beaten
½ cup grated parmesan

Roll out thawed bread on a cookie sheet. Brush on a third of the mixture of melted margarine, egg, parmesan. Layer on cheese and pepperoni. Layer on another third of the melted mixture. Roll up the dough and seal the ends. Make 3-4 shallow slices into the top of the dough and brush on remaining mixture. Bake at 350 for 1 hour. This can be served warm or cooled sliced with marinara sauce to dip it in.

Janeil's Pizza Crust**

4 cups warm water
2 Tablespoons Yeast
2 Tablespoons Sugar
1 Tablespoon Salt (onion salt or garlic salt is really good)
½ cup oil
4+ cups flour
I also like to add some italian herbs

1. Heat oven to 375˚. Dissolve yeast in water
2. Add sugar, salt, and oil, then mix in enough flour to make a soft dough.
3. Knead dough until smooth
4. Roll dough out to fit desired pan (I like to roll mine out on a mixture of cornmeal and italian herbs, it makes the bottom really nice), top with toppings—use remaining dough for breadsticks
5. Bake for approx. 20 minutes or until bottom is brown.
